Things I Would Tell You as an Honest Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner

The world of aesthetics is full of quick promises, viral trends, and before-and-after photos that make everything look easy. But the truth is, great results don’t come from shortcuts. They come from thoughtful treatments, healthy skin, and a provider who is honest with you. As an aesthetic nurse practitioner, there are a few things I wish every patient understood before sitting in the chair.

1. Skincare Matters Just as Much as Injectables

Injectables can enhance beautiful skin, but they can’t replace it. Healthy, well-maintained skin creates the foundation for everything we do in aesthetics. Medical-grade skincare, sun protection, and consistency at home make a bigger difference than many people realize.

2. Injectables Should Elevate, Not Overpower, Your Features

The goal of aesthetic treatments should always be enhancement, not transformation. When done well, you should still look like yourself, just more refreshed. The best compliment isn’t “Who did your filler?” It’s “You look amazing, what have you been doing?”

3. There Is a Limit to How Much Filler the Lips Can Hold

Lip filler migration often happens when lips are pushed beyond what their natural anatomy can support. At a certain point, the tissue simply can’t hold more product. More filler doesn’t always mean better results. In many cases, it means the opposite.

4. Collagen Doesn’t Rebuild Itself Without Stimulation

If your goal is firmer, healthier skin, treatments that stimulate collagen are key. This includes options like Sculptra, Laser treatments, and Microneedling. These treatments work beneath the surface to improve skin quality over time rather than just adding volume.

5. Subtle Results Are the Best Results

Aesthetic treatments should never announce themselves. The best work is invisible. Your friends shouldn’t know exactly what you did. They should only notice that you look refreshed, healthy, and confident.

6. A Good Injector Will Tell You “No”

Ethical providers don’t say yes to every request. Sometimes the best thing for your face and your long-term results is to wait, adjust the plan, or skip a treatment altogether. Protecting your natural features always comes first.

7. Bruising Is Normal

Bruising can happen even when injections are performed perfectly. It simply means a small blood vessel was disrupted, which is completely normal given how vascular the face is. It’s not a sign that something went wrong.

8. Preventive Aging Is Easier Than Correction

Addressing small changes early often requires less treatment, less product, and less cost over time. Waiting until concerns are more advanced usually means more intensive correction later.

9. Anti-Aging Is a Marathon, Not a Sprint

There is no single treatment that stops aging. The best results come from consistent, small, thoughtful treatments over time. Think of aesthetics as maintenance, not a one-time fix.

10. The Cheapest Injector Is Rarely the Best Option

Your face is not the place to bargain shop. Experience, training, aesthetic judgment, and safety standards matter. Choosing a qualified provider who understands facial anatomy and long-term planning will always lead to better outcomes. Great aesthetic work is about balance, restraint, and long-term care. When done right, it doesn’t change who you are, it simply helps you look like the best version of yourself.
